Physics — Matrices & Determinants

Every concept linked to real-world tech careers so you see the purpose behind the formulas.

Short Notes

  • • A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers arranged in rows and columns.
  • • Determinant is a scalar value that can be computed from a square matrix.
  • • If det(A) = 0, the matrix is singular and has no inverse.

Points to Remember

  • • |A·B| = |A| · |B| — determinant of product equals product of determinants.
  • • A⁻¹ = (1/|A|) · adj(A) — inverse formula requires |A| ≠ 0.
  • • Rank(A) = number of linearly independent rows/columns.

Why This Matters for Jobs

Matrices and determinants are the backbone of AI Engineering, Machine Learning, and Computer Graphics. Every image filter, every neural network weight update, and every 3D transformation uses these concepts. Mastering them now gives you a direct edge in backend data engineering, robotics, and generative AI.

Aldol

Enolate attacks carbonyl; forms β-hydroxy ketone. High-yield in JEE.

Cannizzaro

No α-H aldehydes → disproportionation. Must memorize conditions.

Friedel-Crafts

Electrophilic aromatic substitution; needs anhydrous AlCl₃.

Wolff-Kishner

Reduction of carbonyl to methylene; uses N₂H₄ / KOH.
